A wink from the Universe?!
Ok! So I feel great, guys.
First off, Ludwig did text back, and we got the apartment. We gave him the money, signed the papers, and it all feels very grown-up. Tony left for tour this morning, but he lined up movers to help me when the day comes. Phew.
The house right now is just boxes everywhere and clean rectangles on dusty walls showing where our art used to hang. All the records are packed up. Winnie spends about four minutes a day concerned that our house is being taken apart and the rest of her time napping or nooking on her giant carrot toy.
My best friend Axi is in town from Florida and staying with me while she produces a commercial for a popular cheap wine company. I am not exactly at my best as a host. We don’t even have food because we’re trying to sell the fridge on Marketplace. But she is a trooper, working like a dog on pre-production and, luckily, never expecting anything too fancy from me.
I mostly wanted to pop on and update you about the place. I’ll be sleeping there for the first time exactly one week from today! I’m really excited and incredibly grateful that everything worked out the way it did.
It sounds like we’re going to have some cool, young, creative neighbors. It also turns out Ludwig owns the building, along with a few bars in the area. He had never listed the apartment online. He just put up a sign and waited for the right person to call.
The sign had apparently been there for months, which blew our minds because we couldn’t imagine anyone seeing that apartment and not wanting to live there. But Ludwig said he was waiting for the right person to come along, and no big deal, but I guess I was that person.
Two weeks ago, I was in Mexico, weeping on my parents’ couch because I had no idea what we were going to do. I kept wishing I could get some kind of sign, or at least a little wink from the universe, that I was on the right path.
Maybe this is that wink. Maybe I’m just a woo-woo hippie trying to force the universe to make sense. Either way, I’m choosing to see this new apartment as one.
I also wanted to thank you for checking out this page and tell you how much it means to me. I refreshed the views page probably 43 times yesterday and was genuinely blown away by how many people came over to click around. I loved all the DMs asking about the apartment and all the encouragement about the little world I’ve started building here. Also, a special shoutout to my friend Rebecca from OBX, who placed my very first “order” (which was really just a generous donation) and is quite literally helping me get these movers paid for - I am very grateful.
As always, I’m happy and lucky that I get to create, and I’m happy and lucky to be cheered on by anyone other than my mom.
Mom, I’m grateful for you too, obviously.
Axi and I are going to escape this empty apartment now and find some dinner.
